The story behind this design
Plaid on a blanket is almost a default, so this design interrupts it: the check is allowed to run, then blocks of flat geometry cut across and reset it. That interruption is what stops the pattern reading as a picnic rug. Printing rather than weaving is what makes it possible at all, since a loom cannot change its mind halfway across a width.
