The story behind this design

The lettering is set in a condensed slab face, slightly stencilled at the joints, the way a shipping crate or a kit bag might once have been stamped. Stars scatter unevenly around it and the stripes vary in weight rather than marching in parade order, which keeps the design affectionate instead of ceremonial. The humor sits in the phrase, said the way a parent says it at a departure gate.
