The story behind this design
The trick in this pattern is how late you notice the skulls. The florals are drawn first and drawn properly: heavy-headed roses, fern fronds, a Victorian wallpaper density on near-black ground. The skulls sit in the negative space between stems, at about the scale of a rosebud, so from across a room this is simply a dark floral and only close up does the second subject surface.
