Pumpkin and Black Cat
About This Item
The Halloween Pumpkin and Black Cat Pillow is a square faux linen cushion showing a carved pumpkin with a black cat. Three sizes are listed: 16 by 16, 18 by 18 and 20 by 20 inches. The artwork is drawn in the cute rather than the frightening register, with rounded shapes and no gore. The neutral linen ground lets it carry through autumn as well as Halloween week.

The story behind this design
The cat is the harder half of this pairing, because a solid black shape on a pale ground can easily go flat. Here it is given a curled tail that breaks the outline and two pale eyes set wide, so the silhouette has somewhere to read. The pumpkin sits slightly behind and lower, lit from inside in a soft amber that warms the linen around it rather than glowing hard.
