The story behind this design
Garlic is an odd thing to put on a mug and that is rather the appeal. Whole bulbs with their papery skins half peeled are set among sprigs of rosemary, thyme and sage, each element painted separately and then scattered across the surface like a botanical plate rather than arranged into a bouquet. The palette is muted, dusty green and bulb-white with a little violet in the garlic skins, which keeps it closer to a cookbook endpaper than to kitchen novelty.
