The story behind this design
The waves are drawn in the flat, curling style of a woodblock print rather than as a photographic sea, with each crest outlined and filled. Because the swell travels upward rather than across, the pattern lengthens the leg instead of cutting it into bands. Teal, deep blue and a single band of near-white foam do all the work; there is no fourth color anywhere in the design.
