Velveteen has a short dense pile that catches light differently depending on which way you stroke it, and a printed pattern on that surface gains a faint depth a flat weave cannot give it. Holly suits the effect particularly well, because the leaves already want to look waxy. The reds were kept deep rather than bright so the throw reads as Christmas without reading as a decoration.
