The story behind this design
The portrait is cropped close enough that the face fills the frame and the edges of the features run off the canvas, which turns the piece into a study of colour rather than a likeness. Sunflower yellow is carried through the hair and the background so the flowers and the figure share the same palette. The mood is warm and painterly, with brushwork left visible rather than smoothed away.
