About the design
A creek cuts a pale diagonal through the centre of the scene, catching light while the banks on either side run to ochre, russet and burnt orange. Leaves have already begun to collect at the water's edge, so the composition carries both the canopy above and the litter below. The moving water gives this piece something the still forest scenes do not: a line of cool blue-grey running through an otherwise entirely warm palette.
