Cream is an unusual ground for a floral placemat, because it has to sit under food without looking dirty. The answer here is to keep the drawing open: stems and leaves carry most of the line, the blooms are spaced rather than massed, and navy does the work that a heavy outline would otherwise do. Gold appears only in small amounts, where it reads as warmth rather than shine.
