The story behind this design

The sun is built from stacked arcs in banded warm tones, rising from a single horizon rule, with the date in small spaced capitals below. No figure, no flag and no flower. Reducing emancipation to a sunrise was the design choice, and keeping the bands flat is what stops it looking like a nineteen-seventies logo.
