The story behind this design

Comic art already comes with a grammar of movement, the speed line, the starburst, the panel border broken by an elbow, and all of it belongs on a shirt a child is going to run in. The palette is kept to four flat inks with a heavy black keyline, the way cheap newsprint comics were once printed, and the panels are set at slight angles so nothing lines up into a grid.
