The story behind this design
Three or four ridges overlap here, each a flat band with a hard upper edge, and the farthest peaks are drawn lightest so distance is carried by weight of ink rather than by color. There is no sky, no sun and no foreground: the leather itself is everything the mountains are not. That emptiness is deliberate, because a plate sits in the middle of a placemat and any detail put there is covered at dinner anyway.
Frequently asked questions
Q: How large is this DipaliZ placemat?
A: It measures 9 by 7.5 inches and is sold as a single mat.
Q: What is it made of?
A: Leather, printed over the natural tone of the hide.
Q: What does the design show?
A: A layered mountain range drawn as flat ridges, with no figures, buildings or lettering anywhere on the mat.
Q: Is this the only non-botanical mat in the DipaliZ placemat range?
A: It is the landscape one. The others in the range are olive branch and botanical designs, so this is the mat to choose if you want scenery instead of plants.
Q: Can it be wiped clean?
A: Yes. A dry or barely damp cloth is right. Leather should not be soaked or machine washed.
