The story behind this design
Printing a leaf study on black and navy rather than natural canvas was the decision that shaped this design. On a dark ground the artwork has to be built from light rather than line, so the leaves are rendered in pale sage and bone with the canvas standing in for shadow. The result reads more like a botanical plate than a tote print, and it survives the creasing a soft bag inevitably gets.
