The story behind this design
Printing a lemon on a dark ground is harder than it sounds, because yellow loses its punch the moment the surface under it goes dark. The design compensates by drawing the fruit with a hard white highlight and a sharp green shadow line, so the yellow stays bright by contrast rather than by brute saturation. Halving some of the lemons is the other deliberate choice: the cut face gives the eye a pale disc to rest on in a composition that is otherwise all leaf.
