The story behind this design
Treating the bell as a seal rather than an object is what gives this one its character: the circular emblem, the dated rim and the laurel flourishes all borrow from old civic insignia. Green and gold do the work that red and blue usually do on patriotic art, which keeps the result closer to a medal than a flag. The famous crack is drawn in, because leaving it out would make the bell unrecognizable.
