The story behind this design
The frog sits upright with its hands on its knees, small and self-possessed, on a spotted toadstool that is slightly too large for it. Behind the scene the sky is inked deep indigo and dusted with small stars and drifting spores, so the light appears to come from the mushroom rather than above. Ferns and smaller fungi crowd the base in muted moss green, which keeps the whole illustration nocturnal and storybook rather than bright and cartoonish.
