The story behind this design
Cross-stitch imposes a grid, and that constraint is the point of the design: every marigold petal has to be built from small square blocks, so the round flower heads come out faceted rather than smooth. Marigolds suit that treatment better than most blooms because their petals are already tightly packed and layered. The color runs through deep orange and gold with olive stems, the palette marigolds are grown for.
