The story behind this design

Aum is a sound before it is a shape, and the challenge of drawing it is keeping the calligraphy from turning into decoration. Here the curves are drawn with an even, unhurried stroke and given plenty of surrounding space, so the symbol reads as a single held breath. On Ash the grey ground softens it further, which is closer to how the sound actually lands.
