The story behind this design
The design collects half a dozen tartans, a red-and-black buffalo check, a fine grey-blue windowpane, a dense forest plaid and a few quieter ones, and sets them side by side in uneven rectangles like a quilt top. Each block is rotated a little so the lines never align across a seam. The effect is deliberately homemade, closer to a flannel shirt cut up and stitched back together than to a single mill cloth.
