The story behind this design
A mooncycle on a cylinder is a gift to an illustrator: the sequence has a natural beginning and end, and a mug has no natural edge, so the phases can run continuously and meet themselves. The herbs growing between them are drawn in silhouette, which keeps the moons as the only shapes with interior detail. Black on pale is the whole palette, and the restraint is what makes it read as occult rather than decorative.
