The story behind this design

Songbirds — a jay, a robin, a goldfinch — are arranged among pine needles and small berries, each bird drawn in flat blocks of color with a fine darker outline. Against the black lid the palette of scarlet, cobalt and yellow gains contrast, the way birds look brighter against wet bark. The mood is a woodland walk in early winter.
