Otomi Deer

About This Item

The DipaliZ Otomi Deer Denim Hat is a black 100% cotton cap embroidered with an Otomi deer. The crown is unstructured and low-profile, and an adjustable strap at the back sets the fit. The single size covers head circumferences of 21.65 to 25.19 inches.

The story behind this design

An Otomi animal is drawn flat, in profile, with its body filled by lines of solid color rather than shading. This deer follows that: antlers simplified to forked branches, legs reduced to four even strokes, the body packed with stitched bands. Because the tradition is itself embroidery, nothing is lost in the translation to thread.
