The stripes are painted rather than printed flat, so each band carries the uneven edge and slight pooling of a loaded brush. Mint, blush, buttercup and pale periwinkle sit side by side with no outline between them, which keeps the whole surface quiet. The mood is nursery-soft, and because the bands run with the rug's length they make a narrow room read longer than it is.
