A bandana on a pet is folded into a triangle and then worn at an angle, so roughly two thirds of whatever is printed on it is hidden or turned sideways at any moment. Paw prints survive that better than almost any other motif, because a paw reads as a paw upside down, on its side, or half tucked under a chin. Scattering them at random angles rather than aligning them was the whole design decision.
