Peonies are nearly all petal, which is a gift on a small surface: the blooms can be drawn big and still read as flowers. Each one is built from dozens of overlapping ruffles, pale at the outer edge and deepening to a dense rose at the heart. A few leaves are tucked in at the margins, kept low in value so nothing competes with the pink.
