The story behind this design
White flowers on a light ground is a hard brief, because there is almost no tonal range to work with. The drawing solves it with line: each bloom is outlined in a thin darker stroke and left unfilled, so the pattern reads as drawing rather than as painting. Green appears only in the stems. The effect at a distance is of texture rather than color.
