The story behind this design
Mare Nostrum is what the Romans called the Mediterranean, and the shells chosen here are the ones you actually turn up on those beaches: small ribbed cockles, a pointed murex, flat limpets. They are drawn in soft washed color, bone and dusty coral against the white ceramic, with the Latin phrase set in a narrow classical capital. It is a beach souvenir without the usual bright novelty palette.
