The story behind this design
Butterfly wings are symmetrical only in the abstract, and the drawing takes advantage of that — the two halves carry the same pattern at slightly different weights, so the insect looks alive rather than stamped. Heather Red is the surprise of the three grounds: it pushes the warm scales forward and lets the darker venation do the drawing.
