The story behind this design
A sunflower is a good subject for thread because the petals are already radial lines, and stitching runs naturally in that direction. This one is worked as a single bloom with a densely filled brown center and petals in two shades of yellow, so the flower has depth without needing shading. Against Sand the effect is the warmest; on Dark Heather the yellow lifts hard off the grey and the flower reads almost as a badge.
