The story behind this design

The stack is drawn deliberately unstable, five books with their spines facing different ways and the top two offset, which is how a real pile of half-read books sits. The coffee cup on top is the joke and the risk at once. Spine colors are muted mustard, clay and slate so the artwork works on Navy and Black as well as Natural, and the lettering is set small beneath rather than shouting over the drawing.
