The story behind this design
Working without color means the drawing has to carry everything, so the swirls here are built from broad continuous strokes that overlap and part like sand under water, with the tone shifting only slightly at each crossing. Beige, warm sand and an off-white are the whole palette. The effect is closer to a plaster finish or a marbled endpaper than to a graphic print, and it is the design in this range most likely to still look right in five years.
