The story behind this design
The eagle is built from solid blocks and thick contour lines rather than shading, which is what lets it survive at shoe scale - fine feather detail would turn to mush on a curved canvas panel. The wings are placed to open across the widest part of the upper, so the bird reads as one shape from the side rather than wrapping awkwardly round the toe. The palette stays earthy, with the line work carrying the drawing instead of color contrast.
