The story behind this design
Putting sunflowers on a plaid is a harder problem than it sounds, because a check already occupies the whole surface. The design solves it by keeping the flowers large, few and high-contrast, with heavy dark outlines that read over the woven lines instead of dissolving into them. The petals are worked in a single saturated yellow with no shading, which is what lets them hold against the Red and Olive checks. On Charcoal Heather the effect is closest to a workwear patch.
