The story behind this design
Hibiscus flowers are large enough to fill a canvas on their own, so the painting uses only two or three blooms and lets them run off the edges. The petals are built up in thick strokes while the leaves stay flat and dark behind them. Heat is the point of the picture, and the color is pushed to get it.
