About This Item

The DipaliZ Victorian Hourglass Wall Decal is a wall decal printed on durable polyester film. The decal is produced in three sizes, from 12 by 18 inches to 24 by 36 inches. The artwork arranges an antique hourglass, a lit candle and cut roses into a single still life. This decal suits a mantelpiece wall, a study, or anyone drawn to memento mori imagery without a skull in it.

Product details

Format: wall decal

Sizes offered: 12" × 18", 18" × 24", 24" × 36"

The story behind this design

The hourglass stands slightly off centre with the candle flame as the only bright point, so everything else falls away into shadow. Roses spill across the base in wine reds that pick up the candlelight, and the background is left almost entirely dark. The composition borrows the lighting of a Dutch vanitas painting rather than the flat graphic treatment used elsewhere in this DipaliZ decal group.
