The story behind this design

Botanical plates were made for identification, not decoration, which is why they include the parts a decorator would leave out: the thorn, the turned leaf, the bud that has not opened. This rose keeps all of them. The color is held back to a muted rose-pink against cream, so the drawing reads first and the color second, which is the reverse of most floral cushions.
