The story behind this design
In Warli painting a dance is drawn as a ring of figures holding hands, each body reduced to two triangles and a circle. Translated into thread the reduction becomes an advantage: a stitched triangle is clean where a stitched curve is not. The circle turns on itself endlessly, which is the point of the original motif and why it works on something round.
