The story behind this design
Whole fruit rather than cut fruit was the decision here, which gives the artwork two greens to work with: the deeper leaf and the pale highlight along the rind. Natural canvas is a warm, slightly grey ground, so the yellow is pushed a shade toward orange to stop it sinking into the cloth. The lemons are scattered at different angles so the print never lines up into rows.
