The story behind this design
A real snowflake has six-fold symmetry and an enormous amount of internal structure, and most printed snowflakes throw the structure away to keep the symmetry. These keep both: each flake is drawn large enough to carry branching arms and secondary spurs, which is why they are worth looking at up close. Pale blue behind them stops the density becoming heavy.
