The story behind this design
Because the design is woven rather than printed, it is built from areas of contrast rather than fine detail: the lettering is set heavy and open, the eagle is reduced to a silhouette, and the dates sit in a plain band along one edge. The palette is two threads - a deep indigo and an undyed cream - so the pattern reads from the structure of the cloth itself.
