The story behind this design
Yellow blooms sit at the front of the pattern with the foliage pushed back into a duller olive, so the flowers carry all the brightness and the leaves do the structural work. The heads are drawn round and full rather than in profile, which makes the repeat read cheerfully at a distance. The mood is high summer, closer to a field of rudbeckia than a formal bouquet.
