The story behind this design
The composition is organized in horizontal registers, a band of stepped geometry, then a row of blooms, then geometry again, which is a weaving convention rather than a print one. The flowers themselves are desert plants, prickly pear pads, yucca spikes and round cactus blooms, simplified into flat shapes. Terracotta and ochre dominate, with sage and bone used as the separating bands that stop the warm tones from running together.
