The story behind this design
A knotwork pumpkin is a harder drawing than it sounds, because the ribs of the gourd and the over-under of the braid both want to be the strongest line. Here the ribs win: each segment is one closed loop, and the vines are where the braiding happens, spiraling out from the stem. The result leans autumn-folk rather than horror, which is why it holds up through November as well as October.
