The story behind this design
The eyes are drawn at three different scales and rotated through the repeat, which breaks the grid so the pattern never locks into obvious rows. Teal carries the irises while the blossoms stay in a chalky off-white, so the eyes lead and the flowers fill. Each eye is given a slightly different lash treatment; from a distance they read as one motif, close up they are clearly individual.
