The story behind this design
The drawing is close to a single-line portrait: the contour runs from the shoulder through the face and out along the arm to the flower without lifting. Because there is no shading, the shirt colour reads as the skin and the ground at once. The rose is the only closed shape in the whole image, which is why the eye lands there.
