The story behind this design
A dragon turns its head and lets go of a column of flame that breaks into sparks at the edges. The scales are inked in deep reds and charred oranges against a near-black underbelly, so the fire and the body share one palette instead of fighting each other. The pose is all forward motion - neck extended, wing shoulder dropped - and the mood is heat and bad temper rather than storybook whimsy.
