The story behind this design
Peonies are mostly petal, which makes them a difficult flower to draw small and an easy one to draw large. Here they are scaled so two or three blooms fill the cover, painted wet so the blush runs into the mauve at the petal edges rather than stopping at an outline. The foliage is pushed back into a muted sage, barely darker than the ground, so nothing competes with the flowers themselves.
