The story behind this design
Working in one color family forces the drawing to carry the pattern, and here it does: each rose is shaded in three close tones of cream so the petal edges separate without any change of hue. The beige ground is a shade warmer than the palest bloom, which is just enough contrast to hold the shapes. Seen from a step away the cover reads as texture rather than as flowers.
