The story behind this design
Gold is a difficult color in print because it has no ink of its own, so it has to be built from warm yellows and browns and sold by contrast. Here the leaves are laid over a pale ground with enough shadow to keep them from going flat, which is what gives the deck its metallic suggestion without any foil. Autumn leaves also happen to tile well, since a leaf is an irregular shape that hides the seams of a repeat.
